How To Ship Fender Twin Reverb

All,

Anyone know of a better idea than shipping my 1972 Fender Twin Reverb to Japan in a heavy-duty cardboard box lined with 1/2" to 1" sheet foam (cut to size)? I'm trying to figure out how to get it there without it costing me more than an arm and a leg (because I need one of each lol) and I figured you guys might know a better way or cheaper way.

No two ways about it - it'll cost you an arm and a leg.

OK, so best company? USPS or UPS or FedEx? How about method: is a heavy duty cardboard box going to be good enough, or should I get a crate? Crating would be even more expensive....

Re: How To Ship Fender Twin Reverb

Shipping anything large or heavy will carry a hefty pricetag, no way around it. Unfortunately, your Twin Reverb is both. There are some things better off sold locally. That's what I'm hoping for with my Bogner Shiva half stack and that's what I'd recommend for your Twin Reverb.

Is it feasible to ship the cab in one box and pack the chassis and speakers in a separate box? More expensive for sure, but the weight of speakers and chassis in the cab increases the chance of damage IMHO.

Cheers,
Chip

At the very least, cut some pieces of thin plywood to reinforce the front and back of the cabinet, to protect the speakers from intrusion. Tape them to the amp before you put it in the box.

Re: How To Ship Fender Twin Reverb

I haven't checked any prices, but it seams that it would be so outrageously expensive to ship a TR internationally that it would be cheaper to sell it here and buy a new/different one when you get there.

Re: How To Ship Fender Twin Reverb

Something that heavy needs a wooden crate but the bottom line is your're talking a few hundred bucks on shipping plus the cost of the crate.

What is the purpose of shipping said amp?

Re: How To Ship Fender Twin Reverb

Where did you ship it from.?
I could not ship a Twin from West Coast to East for 100 dollars.....

Heh, no kidding. I spent around $75 to ship a guitar from coast to coast and that was the slowest shipping option USPS had available.

Arkansas to Japan. Probably more like $129 if I remember correctly, but still, I was surprised and impressed. Still, mine was shipping to an APO PO BOX so since it's a military address maybe I'm getting a hidden discount lol
