i have a combo amp that says this on the manual:

rated load impedance: 8 ohm

speaker complement: 8 ohm special blahblah

blah blah

so i wonder can i connect the output from a HEAD to the "power amp in" on this combo? would anything blow?

thx

Re: how to slave an amp?

Does the amp have an effects send jack, slave out jack, or preamp out jack? If not, it ain't gonna happen.

Re: how to slave an amp?

ok. let me list them
combo: preamp out, power amp in, normal input
head: effects send, effects return, preamp out, speaker output 4/8/16 ohms

Re: how to slave an amp?

You have two options:

1. Connect the head's preamp out to the combo's power amp in. This means you are using the head's preamp and the combo's power amp and speaker. There will be no impedance issues.

2. Plug the combo's speaker directly into the head's speaker out. This means you are using the head's preamp and power amp, and the combo is essentially a speaker cab. Set your head's output to 8 ohm or use the 8 ohm jack if there is one.

BTW if the head is a tube head make sure you still have a speaker cab connected when trying to slave it into the combo

Yes, good catch. Some heads have a "speaker defeat" switch that allows you to not connect a speaker, but most of them will need some sort of speaker load.

Pay it less then minimum wage and make it sleep in a cottage next to your house with "1/2" on the door.
