Ive never done this before, but i want to stencil a band name on my new old Sunn S-100. I found out this very modelk amp was used at woodstock, so I know its stupid and will devalue the map, but i want to try and stencil an old looking "Jefferson Airplane" logo on the top of the amp. Something that looks old and wathered. I dont think the amp has the original grillcloth, so its not a big deal.

pretty simple, get a big piece of paper, draw the design on the paper, cut out the design tape paper over where the logo should go, apply light spray paint.

to make it look weathered take a wadded up newspaper and dab at the paint until the only paint is whats in the creases of the tolex.

in the past i've just used really big fonts in microsoft word to create a stencil. you can only print one or two letters on a page, but it gets the job done. take a razor blade, cut out the letters, bust out the spray paint, and call it done.

I recently did some spraypaint stenciling for a project, a manilla folder is sturdier than paper, but you will still get overspray. I guess for your purpose though, overspray is OK.

Awesome. When you wanna get rid of this amp and nobody will buy it from you because of the ugly logo on top of it, hit me up.

Use flat white paint. Gloss doesn't dry right on vinyl.

I have always wondered if some of the paint particles wouldn't go through the grill cloth and land on the speaker cones when people do that. Maybe it wouldn't effect them anyway. Dunno...
