How to tell if vol pot is shot?

I think my volume pot is shot after I installed some pickups.
When I turn down the volume, it goes down slightly, and stays at the same volume, from 7-3. When I turn it all the way to 0, I can still faintly hear sound.
So....did I burn this sucker out when I soldered the new wires onto it?:dunce:

Perhaps.

That condition can also be caused by a bad ground connection on terminal 1.

Its a push/pull pot. I grounded the wires to side of the pot. Maybe I didn't do it correctly?
