How to turn a pedal into a noise maker?

I got this Boss MT-2 Metal Zone for free, I already have one, so I want to jack this one up to make some crazy noises out of it.

Any suggestions? could I just take out an IC and put in one of those IC holders and just put in random chips from radio shack or something?

I don't know anything about circuitry like this, but I want to have some fun!!!

unless you know how pedal circuits work you are done for.... i can't see a modified distortion pedal ever making wacky noises.... but you never know.... I'd suggest just leave it the way it is and get some sort of wacky new effect pedal on it's own

It just seems like with all that crap on the circuit board, you could change something around to make f'd up. Maybe I'll buy some cheap arion pedal or something to mess with.

If you don't know anything about effects pedals you'll probably just destroy it. When you want weird sounds you kind of have to know what you want first and if you can even get it out of the effect type you're trying to get it out of.

I don't mod my own pedals, so here's my suggestion: send one to Keeley and the other to AnalogMan and make them fight. Oh yeah, there are a few pedal modifiers at these forums who may be able to help you out.

The last time I checked the Metal Zone was a noise maker :p

You can try circuit bending..
It'll make noises, or smoke...or both...

I think it's Artie who has a couple PCBs up for free. Just gotta answer a question, it's a contest, winner gets one, or both, something like that. Use could put the appropriate resistors and capacitors on it and have yourself a new pedal!!

Search "DIY pedal" or "guitar pedal making" and you can find sites with circuits that you can make.

LOL!
Man that video made my morning, thanks!

That would make noises and smoke, and not a bad stage act..
But I was thinking in the lines of this:

Circuit bending is the creative short-circuiting of low voltage, battery-powered electronic audio devices such as guitar effects, children's toys and small synthesizers to create new musical instruments and sound generators. Emphasizing spontaneity and randomness, the techniques of circuit bending have been commonly associated with noise music, though many more conventional contemporary musicians and musical groups have been known to experiment with "bent" instruments

From Wikipedia

Circuit bent drum machine

I've seen it with guitar effects too, should work for distortion too..pretty simple and random too.

Yah no, I'm totally familar with circuit bending...

Somewhere around here I have a speak & spell that a friend 'bent' a few years back...

He used to create & program voices for Cookie Monster & Elmo dolls... stuff like that. heheheheh

Just going for the cheap laugh...

I recommended that they "blend" an MXR pedal!
