How to use a Multimeter

I bought one from Eurotubes
It has 2 leads you insert into jacks on the meter itself
I follow the instructions and nothing really happens, in so far that I short the leads by touching thm together (as the manual says) and it should register 0, and it registers 1.

Then, I touched the ends to my guitar, my cab, etc - nothing

How do you use this thing, and how is it used to measure?
