How well does a Seth Split?

I just played a G&L Bluesboy with the '55 Seth Lover neck pickup and G&L's MFD bridge pickup and was amazed at the range of tones that come out of that instrument. Wonderfully smooth neck sounds to nasty bridge sounds. I left the store wondering why I had never considered this combination before.

It also left me wondering, how well does a Seth split? I know that Seths are typically 2 wire, but can be ordered for 4 wire. Would it be effective for creating more traditional single coil neck tones? I'm wondering how a bluesboy would be with a 5 way switch.

1. neck
2. split neck
3. bridge and neck
4. bridge and split neck
5. bridge

Don't know about the Seth, but the Pearly Gates at the neck of my 69 RI Thinline splits well and combines wonderfully with the Hot Lead at the bridge.

The Pearly Gates has an uneven wind with one highly overwound coil though, so it would make a more convincing strat-like tone split. I'm not sure if the Seth has uneven winds though.

that is NOT true
the coils are NOT highly mismatched...they're mismatched just a little...

Re: How well does a Seth Split?

i've been looking for a thread to ask this on and this one seems best- i have an epi les paul and love the bridge pickup tone, but how can i get a good strat sounding neck pickup tone? is a split bucker my best option? if so, which one?! if not, would a single coil work or just sound poo?

Re: How well does a Seth Split?

Depending on the Paul's bridge pickup, a stag mag might work in the neck
