How would E34Ls differ to EL34's in my komet?

I took the back off my komet today to put back the NOS tubes i took out when i first bought the amp...i figure now i know what it sounds like with normal tubes so i can probably appreciate the difference the NOS ones will make. Anyway, i noticed that the power tubes are not EL34's like i thought they were...they are in fact E34Ls...and that small "s" on the end is not me trying to be plural, but the branding on the tubes actually say "E34Ls" with the lower case "s" at the end.

Can anyone tell me how the E34Ls would be different sounding to EL34's?

I thought that E34Ls were a sturdier type of EL34.

The EL34Ls is a 30 watt tube, all the others are 25 watt tubes,

The E34L's sound like a mix between a 6L6 and an EL34. The have a little more headroom than the el34's but lack the midrange and some of the el34 tone.
Why are you thinking of switching?

Not really thinking of switching, but i thought they were actually EL34's up till yesterday :smack:

But when i go to replace power tubes ill probably put EL34's in it...maybe some NOS ones

Be sure to check the bias, if you decided to go to regular EL 34, the Ls is biased a little different. If you have a non adjustable bias circuit, then don't worry about it.

Does your amp have an internal bias pot, or is the bias pot actually that rotary pot on top of the chassis? I've always loved that feature that Komet has.....having a bias 'fine tuner' rotary pot next to the power tubes.

I've always felt that E-34L's make a 50W take on more of a 100W sound, since it's got a little more headroom and bass.
