How'd he do that?? (Tremonti, Alter Bridge)

XSSIVE

OCDologist
so i finally decided to give Alter Bridge a shot since my friend let me borrow the CD. anyway some stuff is pretty cool and i have to give credit to Tremonit for sure!!

anyway for anyone familiar with the CD on the song Metalingus at 1 minute into the song he does this trem dive with a crazy warble/screach for lack of a better term at the end. how on earth did he get that sound? he does it a few times in the song and it just made me curious as to how it's done.

here is a clip of it...you can't miss the part i'm talking about....

It's a slight dip, then a gargle. I'll do a vid in a minute if I can find the camera

Re: How'd he do that?? (Tremonti, Alter Bridge)

sweet, that would be great, this may be a cool trick to rip off LOL.

Re: How'd he do that?? (Tremonti, Alter Bridge)

I'm warning you now, I'm still off school on holiday atm, and it's only half past 4... I've not been up long, and I cba getting dressed properly, so you'll have to brave my pyjama shorts. :laugh2:

The mic on this camera is pretty crap, and the other one isn't charged up, so sorry about the clipping when I play the full riff... The technique and how to do it records nice and cleanly though, so I hope that helps you.

I hope you appreciate the guitar faces too :D

Edit again.. I think I'm hearing things.. there isn't a dip I don't think. But there is warble/gargle, and that's how to do one ^

Too early...

ha, i've been doin' the warble trick since the 80's.

Xssive: do u know shotgun messiah? U'd really, really like their self title lp. Harry Cody warbles great.

Vai does it on Blue Powder, i think.

Vinnie Vincent warbles on his self titled, i think too.

warble fo lyfe!

Re: How'd he do that?? (Tremonti, Alter Bridge)

didnt brad gillis warble like a mofo on the first half of the solo to nightranger's 'dont tell me you love me' :D

was a symptom of major league floyd abuse back in the day, no?

Brad Gillis is/was the king of that trick. I know how to do it, but it's hard to explain and even harder to do.

You just need a fairly sensitive floating trem. Hit your note, and run your hand along the end of the tip of the bar, pressing it down slightly so it flicks when your hand slips off the end. Just imagine stroking it with a flick at the end of the stroke.

That's the best I can do for an explanation.. :)

Once you figure out how to do it, I don't think it's that hard to do, personally.

Re: How'd he do that?? (Tremonti, Alter Bridge)

just apply pressure to the very, very tip of the bar so it pops up.

Re: How'd he do that?? (Tremonti, Alter Bridge)

i liken the motion you need on the whammy bar tip to the trick you can do with a ping pong ball on a smooth table where you flick it downward so that it skids out away from you for a while then doubles back and starts rolling back towards you

Re: How'd he do that?? (Tremonti, Alter Bridge)

Lol, great thread, didn't know that one! Need to buy a new bar soon, it's been gone for ages.

I always asumed he used some kind of pedal for that sound since he uses fixed bridge guitars?

Nice vid Nuntius that actually sounds very close to a soundeffect from the metroid game :)

up north we call it a "flutter" lol. Slight dive then release to flutter.
