How's that pick up booster?

Re: How's that pick up booster?

eh, i'd say it gets you pretty close, not dead on, but, good enough

if you like both single coils & humbuckers you won't be dissapointed

if you're not a fan of single coils, eh, why have them in the first place? The pedal will give you more versatility but only humbuckers sound like humbuckers, yanno?

Re: How's that pick up booster?

I'd agree with drew, that its pretty close. The thing is, I don't think of it, so much, as "humbucker" sound as I do just another tone option. In fact, I tend to use it with humbuckers more than singles. ;)

Its a great pedal. Even "clean", it seems to add some character to otherwise good pups.

Re: How's that pick up booster?

I use mine mainly as a lead boost and to fatten up my overall single coil lead tones...It works great for doing both, otherwise I agree with Drew and Artie.

Re: How's that pick up booster?

I recently fell back in love with single coils, because I'm starting to play more clean again. But for full distortion, I prefer humbuckers, and I have some songs where the strat is perfect for most parts, but the heavy bits miss something.
That's where the booster would come in real handy.

thanks,

Jan

Re: How's that pick up booster?

What does it do exactly? Is it a clean boost or a gain boost? Just a distortion pedal? I never really got what it does.

Re: How's that pick up booster?

Its definitely a "clean" boost. All the way up to +25db. So, you can use it to overdrive the frontend of an amp, or to "buffer" the signal to feed a chain of pedals. I like the "punch" it gives when you just dial in a bit of boost, with the knob just off the low end stop.

The two position resonance switch is icing on the cake.

Now I'm starting to sound like a salesman . . . but thats what it does. ;)

Re: How's that pick up booster?

So it's very similar to an MXR microamp then for instance?
A friend of mine uses this with a JC800 combo and my Charvel sounded amazing on it. I'm getting a Laney LC15R as soon as I have the money and I really want or need it and I'm looking for a boost pedal to give it enough gain for a metal distortion. You think the SD pickup booster would give it enough gain and without masking the true amp/tube tone?
