It sounds like turning down the volume nob on my axe treble roll off.But im not, i maid shure of that. any ideas. thanx

Re: hrddlx problem!

The HRD's are known to have bad plate load resistor's and in the past few years Fender Lowered the value of the 5w ceramic resistors R78 & R79 from 470 ohms to 330 ohms to keep it from burning the trace pads.:smack: Is this a New Amp where talking about? If So? It's still under warrentty... Get it to your closes authorized fender repair shop!! You have 5 years from date of purchase. If it's no longer under warranty? DUMP IT !! I have a 2000 HRD that I replaced all the problematic resistors myself. IMO I'm pretty handy with a soldering iron,But working on the flimsy HRD PCB was a nightmare for me.:smack:

Re: hrddlx problem!

Whatever Ken did to his HRD it did the trick.......... That amp sounds awesome!!

Re: hrddlx problem!

I had the same problem about a month ago... Changed tubes across the board, and couldn't get the bias higher than about 70.... That's what I bias normally, but I had to dime the knob out to get it that far.... NOT RIGHT AT ALL!!!... I have torn it completly down and CAREFULLY inspected each and every solder joint.... also done some research on Justin Holton's webpage...

http://studentweb.eku.edu/justin_holton/

VERY useful info...

ANYWAY.... I found 2 problems, the first being the faulty Cement resistors.... they get pretty hot causing cold solder joints... for a quick fix, i re-soldered them, but I have some new ones rated at 330 coming in from Mouser soon.... I also found a loose connectino from the ribbon that connects the upper PCB to the lower one near the power tubes... I removed the ribbon, cleaned and tinned each wire and reconnected it...

So far, so good!

The HRDx has a bad rap due to the PCB, but don't let that discourage you. It is an excellent sounding amp, and one you can learn a great deal about electronics on.... LOTS of potential mods to this one.... Sometime in the not so distant future, I plan on attempting a COMPLETE rebuild on a new chassis with point to point wiring.... AND it will be a head, instead of a combo...

Good Luck,
Allen
