HS-3...pickup microphonic feedback problems

Hi!
My HS-3 has very high level of microphonic feedback, even on low volumes it starts to squeal like crazy sometimes :(
I don't know why. I have YJM on this guitar too. It's almost the same pickup as HS-3, but has much lower microphonics...
Does it mean that my HS-3 is bad or damaged ? Or is it just the nature of this pickup ? I wonder how Yngwie uses them....my one feedbacks on really low volume, bedroom level volume. On stage it's just impossible to use it for me :(

Can anyone suggest me DiMarzio stacked humbuckers or single coil size humbuckers which have really low microphonics ?

Thanks!

Re: HS-3...pickup microphonic feedback problems

most common cause of microphonic feedback is the pup not being wax potted. i dont know what a HS-3 is, ive never used dimarzio pups but if its not wax potted then thats ur problem

Re: HS-3...pickup microphonic feedback problems

I had the exact same problem with HS-3's, which is why I switched. If you'll notice, YJM is very quick with his volume knob. He cuts the volume when he's not playing for the same reason, I assume. I guess we both could have had bad HS-3's but I don't think so, as every one I've ever had squealed like a pig with high gain (microphonic feedback). A noise gate would help if the feedback is decreased enough to be tolerable while you're playing. To be honest, it was tolerable when I was practicing in my room, but at stage volume they were not useable; we're both probably high gain players that use too much for the HS...YJM doen't go overboard with preamp gain.

Re: HS-3...pickup microphonic feedback problems

The HS3 should be no different than the YJM in terms of potting. If it isn't new it is possible that the potting has dried up and the pickup has gone microphonic. If it is new return it as fast as possible for a refund. If it isn't new you can repott it. But check to make sure that the epoxy joint between the two coils hasn't dried out and is causing the noise. I have seen old stacked coils often with this problem.
