HSH 1 vol, 1 tone, 5 way, push/pull

I want to do a coil split wiring setup on a custom build, but would like to change the way the pickups are selected with the 5 way

Ive seen the diagram that is on the SD main siteHSH_1v_1t_5w_pushpull.jpg

which im guessing allows for this pickup selection

Push-pull up:

Position 1 - Splitted Bridge
Position 2 - Splitted Bridge ( inner Bridge )with Middle
Position 3 - Middle
Position 4 - Splitted Neck ( Inner Neck ) with Middle
Position 5 - Splitted Neck

Push-pull down:

Position 1 - Bridge
Position 2 - Splitted Bridge ( inner Bridge )with Middle
Position 3 - Middle
Position 4 - Splitted Neck ( Inner Neck ) with Middle
Position 5 - Neck

But if possible i'd like to change it to:

Push-pull up:

Position 1 - Splitted Bridge
Position 2 - Splitted Bridge ( inner Bridge )with Middle
Position 3 - Middle
Position 4 - Splitted Neck ( Inner Neck ) with Middle
Position 5 - Splitted Neck

Push-pull down:

Position 1 - Bridge
Position 2 - Bridge with Middle
Position 3 - Neck with Middle
Position 4 - Neck
Position 5 - Bridge with Neck or (Bridge with Middle with Neck)

Re: HSH 1 vol, 1 tone, 5 way, push/pull

I'm by no means a wiring expert but I don't see any mechanism for coil splitting at the 5-way switch so I'm pretty sure that diagram will give you your desired function of only splitting the humbuckers when the push pull is up.

If you're looking for hum canceling when pairing the split humbuckers with the mid you'll need this magnetic polarity: SN....S....NS (inner coils active when split)

Re: HSH 1 vol, 1 tone, 5 way, push/pull

^^ I see the same thing, a 5 way that´s not set for splitting, and a push pull to have splitting when desired. Selections are n<>n+m<>m<>m+b<>b m with n+b split when the push pull is up. It's essentially standard HSH 5-way wiring with the option of splitting or not instead of having the split be automatic in the 2+4 positions.

This goal however is a big issue:

Push-pull up:
Position 1 - Splitted Bridge
Position 2 - Splitted Bridge ( inner Bridge )with Middle
Position 3 - Middle
Position 4 - Splitted Neck ( Inner Neck ) with Middle
Position 5 - Splitted Neck

Push-pull down:
Position 1 - Bridge
Position 2 - Bridge with Middle
Position 3 - Neck with Middle
Position 4 - Neck
Position 5 - Bridge with Neck or (Bridge with Middle with Neck)

No switch that would usually be used on guitars can be set up to accommodate n<>n+m<>m<>b+m<>b AND b<>b+m<>n+m<>n<> B+n/b+m+n. at the same time, not even the fabled megaswitches. Changing between these 2 configurations requires additional switches to swap the leads to the blade switch around. The second one is factually impossible with just a standard blade switch and can only be accomplished with a megaswitch or additional push-pulls /miniswitches.

You can either mirror the top without splitting with a standard 5 way, or mirror the bottom with splitting using a megaswitch, but you will have to choose one basic layout.

Will i be able to get the desired results if i have two push/pull pots or are we looking at adding additional mini switches etc?

Re: HSH 1 vol, 1 tone, 5 way, push/pull

Oh, sorry, I missed the desired non-standard function of the 5-way switch with the push-pull down:

Push-pull down:

Position 1 - Bridge
Position 2 - Bridge with Middle
Position 3 - Neck with Middle
Position 4 - Neck
Position 5 - Bridge with Neck or (Bridge with Middle with Neck)

I don't think this is possible.

Re: HSH 1 vol, 1 tone, 5 way, push/pull

Ok not to worry, I did read on another forum about using one of these switchs
3PS1SC5.jpg

And wiring the pickups to the first 4 lugs, and then wiring the coil split like normal, would give me the desired effect of

Push-pull down:

Position 1 - Bridge
Position 2 - Bridge with Middle
Position 3 - Neck with Middle
Position 4 - Neck
Position 5 - Bridge with Neck or (Bridge with Middle with Neck)

P.S this is the link to the forum http://www.dimarzioforum.com/forum/index.php?topic=32.0

That will work just fine, the Cortek is essentially the same thing as a Megaswitch. And when the push pull is Up you´d then have

Position 1 - Bridge split
Position 2 - Bridge split with Middle
Position 3 - Neck split with Middle
Position 4 - Neck split
Position 5 - Bridge split with Neck split or (Bridge split with Middle with Neck split)

:)

Re: HSH 1 vol, 1 tone, 5 way, push/pull

Thanks for the help

So just to clarify and make sure its all correct, by using the Cortek switch

when wiring to the first 4 lugs

Push/pull down ill get

Position 1 - Bridge HB
Position 2 - Bridge HB with Middle SC
Position 3 - Neck HB with Middle SC
Position 4 - Neck HB
Position 5 - Bridge HB with Neck HB or (Bridge HB with Middle SC with Neck HB

the Push/pull up ill get

Position 1 - Bridge split
Position 2 - Bridge split with Middle
Position 3 - Neck split with Middle
Position 4 - Neck split
Position 5 - Bridge split with Neck split or (Bridge split with Middle with Neck split)

I know this might be a pain, but would it be possible if you could edit the wiring diagram to suit? It would be a huge help and highly appreciated

:)

I unfortunately can´t, due both to me not understanding the Cortek switch fully and also the the lack of graphics manipulation software. But Hermetico or ArtieToo should be able to, shoot them a PM if they don´t pop in here anyway. ;)

Thanks very much for the help :)

I really appreciate it, i'll drop them a message now thanks very much :)
