HSH coil split wiring help

Hi everybody,
I've looked around in searches on here but can't find anything on the question I've got: I am going for an HSH Strat (hot rails in the neck & bridge) and desire to coil-split the two humbuckers. No need to mess with series/parallel toggling. I have a DPDT switch described as "on-on-on" that I would like to use for the coil-splitting, and am wondering if it can be rigged up as follows:

Pos. 1: both coils on, on both humbuckers (HSH guitar)
Pos 2: no cirucuit wired in (hoping this can serve as a mute/killswitch)
Pos. 3: both humbuckers coil tapped (SSS guitar)

Additional info:
5 way pickup selector switch, normal strat selector switch wiring.
1 volume
2 tone knobs (neck & mid), (bridge)

Is this possible or am I misunderstanding the function of a DPDT on-on-on switch?

I am attaching a diagram I downloaded from Seymour Duncan- I notice that it is for a push/pull split but thought a DPDT switch would be wired basically the same. Am I on the right track with this diagram? I know most wiring diagrams typically leave the neck as a stand-alone tone pot and link the bridge and middle for the second so I would have to modify at least that much...Also, I do have a 5-way super switch and a push/push volume knob that came off a Fender S-1 switching setup, and I can use those parts if I need to or it would be better; I was hoping to avoid having to make that many connections. Anybody who understands this stuff and has time to post is much appreciated.

Re: HSH coil split wiring help

An on-on-on won't do that. You'ld need a separate switch for the "kill" function. The S-1 switch however, will work to split both pups. I need to find my diagram to show you how. Film@11.

Artie, thank you for the info on the switch. I was sort of doubting that the dpdt could also serve as a kill switch but am glad to hear it said for sure.

Re: HSH coil split wiring help

I would think you'd want an on off on switch where off would be humbuckers and one on would be single coils and the other on could be kill

Re: HSH coil split wiring help

No, even with an on/off/on you won't be able to get the "kill". You need a separate switch for that.

Re: HSH coil split wiring help

Thanks to all who responded and cleared up the impossibility of doing all of that with one switch. I am not wanting to mess with 2 switches, so back to the basic coil-tapping idea which I guess could be done with a DPDT on-on switch?:

Pos. 1: HSH
Pos 2: SSS

Also, the diagram I posted above is for a push-pull pot...I suspect a DPDT switch would be wired the same as far as the pickups go; I am wondering if it is grounded to the volume knob like the push/pull illustration shows for the bottom-left lug on the switch. If I am wrong anywhere please correct me.

Re: HSH coil split wiring help

The diagram is the same, you'd just have to run a ground wire. The pot and the switch are electrically separate (except for the ground).

Ok...that was what I had guessed but wanted to consult the knowledge base before taking the time to wire something up incorrectly. I've already spent enough time doing things that way.

Thanks, everybody, for the help!
