Hello,
3 weeks ago I got my Black winter set + a classic strat plus coil for my HSH guitar.
After wiring the pickups, everything worked as it should and I was very happy with the sound of my 3 new pickups.
Then, one day later, my middle pickup was somewhat dead. It had no volume when playing clean and very weak volume when using the distortion channel.
Since I assumed it would probably be a loose/bad connection, I already called my guitar friend who has a soldering iron and told him that we will need to open up the guitar again. However the next day the middle pickup worked perfectly again. In total confusion I cancelt the soldering appointment with my friend but I could not explain to him why the pickup worked again (I actually started thinking I imaged it
)
The middle pickup worked fine for 3 weeks until yesterday the problem occurred again (so I'm not insane
). I met with another guitar friend and we opened up the guitar, all the connections seemed okay at first sight.
We spend 4 hours checking the wires and re-solder everything that seem a little sloppy from the first job. After re-stringing the instrument the middle pickup was still silent on clean and very weak on distortion. The neck and bridge humbuckers still work fine, as they did from day 1.
Is my Classic strat plus coil dead? I can't imagine what else the problem would be? It is not a ground problem because I have no noise/buzz what so ever. It is not a phase problem because the pickup actually worked for 3 weeks.
It is not a loose connection because I still have a very weak distortion sound and the connections seemed solid. The volume and tone pot work fine (on the humbuckers). etc...
Should I return my pickup and swap it for a new one?
