HSH Wiring - Some Questions

Ok, here is my question.
Is it possible to have an HSH configuration...and be able to coil split each humbucker individually?
I am looking at a strat style body - 1 volume, 2 tones.
I looked on the Ibanez site, and it seems they have wiring diagrams, but the push pull pot they have gives you an either/or option. Either both the hums are on or both are off. So either you can have the strat sound, or a true HSH sound, but you can't tap each humbucker individually.
Any ideas? I can't seem to find it in the wiring diagrams either:eyecrazy:
Thanks in advance for any links or ideas!

Re: HSH Wiring - Some Questions

if you use two switches or push/pull pots you can split each one individually

Re: HSH Wiring - Some Questions

i have an HSH guitar that i can do exactly what you are talking about .. but it requires an on-off-on mini toggle switch ... you wire red/white to the center post, black to one outer post and green to the other outer post ... in the middle position, you get both coils in series and you can split out screw-only or stud-only when you flick the toggle

getting kinda whacky, i used a DPDT on-off-on and put the neck pickup on one side and the bridge on the other side of the same toggle switch .. and i arranged it so that when i toggled, i was selecting 'inners' or 'outers' ... i did a mag flip and reverse wire of the neck pup too in order to preserve hum cancelling ... the last thing i had to do was instal a push/pull on the master volume in order to control what happened when the 5-way was in position 3 ... when it is pushed, i get the single coil middle pickup by itself ... when pulled, it gets me the bridge and neck parallel combos ... 16 combinations in all with master volume and master tone - pretty happenin'

good luck

Re: HSH Wiring - Some Questions

I used a center-off DPDT to do something similar to t4d, only when thrown to one side the bridge stud coil and neck screw coil are active (in parallel). When thrown the other way it's bridge screw coil and neck stud coil. Both positions are hum canceling.

To the original question, you can use two push/pull switches to split the humbuckers individually. You can also wire the 5-way up to do an auto split in the notch positions if that is what you're after.
