HSS Fat & Skinny

I am upgrading a Squier Fat Hss and see a lot of HSS wiring diagrams that use 500k pots regardless of how many coils they pull in.

I can understand the Fat HSS that pull in the middle and double bridge having a different pot but is there any reason a HSS that only pulls in any 2 coils having a different pot to a normal Strat or is this just the excepted norm?

I think it's just knee-jerk because 500k with a humbucker is usual, and you usually only get one volume on a superstrat.

There's a few current threads on the subject of control values and such. Recycling a link from erikm's post on the subject may give you a few ideas. http://www.thegearpage.net/board/showthread.php?t=118336

While 250k pots are normal for stratty single coils, some people love them on buckers and some think they're excessively dark. Try it and see if you like it! :)

Not quite sure what you mean with 'how many coils they pull in' though... you don't have to use bigger resistances against more pickups in a circuit if that's what you meant ;)

Thanks Tref,

Article is helpful and confirms what I thought.

What i meant was I would expect a circuit with different configuration to use different values but not all the HSS switch different to a normal strat.
