I've spent a bunch of time paw'ing through old posts on here, but I wanted to join anyway in case somebody has a helpful opinion.
I'm in the middle of hot rodding an HSS Classic Vibe, so... poplar bodied strat, maple neck/fretboard. Stock pickups are actually pretty nice but I really want the bridge to be hotter. Was originally thinking I'd go with Dimarzio but I keep coming back around to SD... I mostly played JBs after I fell out of love with EMG back in the day, but honestly I don't want to just throw a JB in there for this project.
I play mostly metal/80's thrash (Maiden, Metallica, Mercyful Fate etc) but I also want to use the neck/middle to clean up and really have that Gilmour strat vibe when I want it. I have an Obsidian Wire circuit in there now that swaps from 500k to 250k when you switch to the singles. I'm brand new to strats so I'm in uncharted waters with the singles and how they'll play with a hot bridge pickup.
SD recommends a Distortion/SSL5/SSL5 for my situation, but I'm open to ideas/other experiences.
It's going through an Orange and usually with some combo of TS9, Green Russian Muff/Rat Clone if that helps...
