HSS to SSS conversion

Re: HSS to SSS conversion

Pics of the strat?

If it has a pickguard then all you do is switch from a HSS to SSS. If they are wood mounted then you have to get creative on how to cover the hole or just leave it looking like a Frankenstrat ;)

Re: HSS to SSS conversion

Guitar is a HSS HWY1. I have a BC-2 bridge pup that I'm dying to try, and all my Strats have full size humbuckers in the bridge, so something slightly different might be cool.

Re: HSS to SSS conversion

It depends if you're Strat has fat Strat wiring or just a regular Strat harness & a Humbucker in the bridge. Chances are it's got fat Strat wiring so all your going to need is a new guard and to do some very minor modifications to your 5 way switch, aside from that it's as easy as 123! Shouldn't take more than 20 minutes total & that's if you're working off a diagram. I can build Stratocaster guards in my sleep so I could probably do it in half that time & most of it would be messing with strings, screws, EXE.

Not bragging or anything!!!:9: All kidding aside its super easy! If you really get stuck for some reason P.M. me & I'll just give you a S/S/S harness, I'm sure I've got one or two laying around here somewhere & I only keep them for parts anyway.

You will just need to "load" another pickguard for that one ;)

Re: HSS to SSS conversion

I did this exact conversion ... I bought a (new) Hiway One Strat with a bridge humbucker because the price was right, although I have no use for a Strat with a humbucker. I purchased a brand new Hwy 1 S/S/S pickguard and bridge single-coil pickup from The Stratosphere, transplanted all the electronics and two single-coil pickups from the original 'guard to the new one, installed and connected the new bridge single-coil, dropped it into the guitar and that was it, job done.

If you can solder, it's a simple excercise, you won't have any difficulties.

Re: HSS to SSS conversion

I would just get another pickguard, and load it with the pickups and electronics you want. You can get all creative and attach something like a snap on connector to the jack and ground, so you can switch them out very easily.
