HSS users, how do you wire it up so both types of pickups sound good?

I'm having trouble figuring out how to wire these up. I have an EVH '78 and two Duncan APS-1's. Since the humbucker likes to see 500k pots, and the singles like to see 250k's, how can I wire it up so everything works out good? I'm going to have a tone pot on the neck, and one on the humbucker instead of the middle single coil. I was thinking 500k volume, 500k humbucker tone, and 250k for neck tone. Probably .022 cap on the humbucker, and .047 for neck. Would this yield good results and not be overyly bright for the single coils, while at the same time not making the humbucker too dark and muffled?

I remember reading something about a resistor to make the singles coils see a 250k pot when selected. Can anyone explain how to do it? Also, how would this work out in the #4 position when both middle single coil and split humbucker are selected?

Please help me out with some suggestions. :) Also, i've been reading that the EVH is a noisy humbucker, and paired with the APS-1's, the whole guitar will be on the noisy side. Anyone have ideas on shielding this thing for best results?

Thanks!

I can only comment on the first paragraph, and that seems like a pretty good compromise to me.

Thanks for the link lew, I'll check it out. By the way, I was the one who ordered the APS-1 and APS-1 RW/RP from you on thursday. Thanks!

I've never tried Erik's wiring idea but it sounds like a pretty brilliant idea.

That post of eriks sounds really good and im gonna save that info for future reference, but do you think it matters for single stacked pickups as much...like my strat with a JB bridge, virtual vintage blues middle and virtual vintage solo neck...cos those stacks are pretty fat sounding anyway and the solo particularly has a very humbucker-esque feel to it.

I have a Fender HSS-Strat with only one volume knob and one tone knob. It was from factory installed a TBX tone pot and and 250k volume pot. It works fine: with the singe coils I put the TBX at 5 (250k). Often I put the TBX at 7 when I use the humbucker for a brighter tone (sounds like 500k). Useful.

Dmz has generally recomended 500k for their VV series pups.

What happens when the switch is in the #4 position (bridge split/middle). Do the pickups then see a 250k or 500k pot?
