hum depending on angle to amp

Hi,

i own a '83 Strat Elite which sounds and feels really great. However theres quite a lot of hum when the top or back points towards the amp and it completely disappears if I hold it horizontal.

Recently had a look at the electronic: there seem to be some ground loops (ground wire on the back of the pots + shielded pickguard).

Would you expect that problem being solved after removing these wires or can there be further reasons?
Maybe the this old active electronics didn't have the quality of today's MBX/TBX controls?

Please help me as it's impossible to gig with this hum

The article "Quieting the Beast" will guide you through fully sheilding the electronics cavity and removing all ground loops. If that doesn't work, stacked single coils will.

Look. The problem is easy to solve. I had it too and started to ask around. Out of all the answers I got. The one that actually worked was this. You don't have to do anything to your axe. The magnetic field created by the pickups can pickup the RF created by some electronic devices such televisions, computer monitors, lighting, etc. When you point the pickups at these devices you will get a hum and when you turn them away from the device the hum will go away. So just stay away from these things and you'll be alright.

It has to do with how your guitar is oriented towards the transformer of the amp. That's why you get more hum at some angles and less hum at others. Lew

Thanks fellows, that sounds all logical to me. However what to do an stage if electronic device are all around me (light, racks, synthesizer, monitor ...)? I don't have this problem with my other guitars.
