Re: hum when rolling down volume pot
Let me back up a bit.... because people keep referring to noise mitigated when volume pot is up, I suggest checking some things before opening your guitar as it maybe an external signal to noise issue.
First try a different guitar to make sure the problem is isolated to that guitar. -also isolate cords and try another amps -use the scientific method to isolate the issue.
If there is any duplicate type noise from another guitar, I suggest that it may be one of the following:
1)the 110V has a dirty neutral or similar issue -ie your power is too dirty or has dirty loads on them -does the noise coincide with the washer dryer being on -or HVAC kicking in?
2)your room lights are playing havoc with your pickups -just change proximities and circuits
3)your amp is not properly grounded.
Once you rule out these, then I suggest you have a shorted Volume Pot, bad system ground or possibly a floating bridge if the noise is totally solved by touching strings (check bridge ground)
