Humbucker for ibanez rg.

Hey hey, this is my first post, wooooo.

Right here goes, I bought a Japanese RG a little while ago, I know its not exactly the greatest guitar for tone but thats what my other guitars are for. I got rid of the stock bridge and whacked in a custom custom as I thought it might beef the sound up and add a tiny bit of warmth. I was kinda suprised to find it was extremely thin sounding and required me to whack the bass right up on my amp.

Anybody got any ideas what pickup will add more beef and make the guitar sound a bit less sterile. I like the feel and speed of the guitar so useful suggestions will be highly appreciated!

Try the Blues Saraceno model trembucker. It's highly regarded here for beefing up floating trem, basswood bodied RG's. I tried it in a RG550 with great results, definately thickened things up.

I have a JB in my MIJ RG 550 and it sounds killer.

I would consider a George Lynch model Screamin demon, it is an Alnico 5 Magnet, whereas the Custom Custom is a bit more vintage as it uses an Alnico 2. I think you'll find the Screamin demon a great pickup, very punchy and organic, with a crispness top it or a "touch of glass" on the high end as it is described.

Do you need less high end or more bass?

If you want more bass, I'd suggest the Custom. It'll be bright and in your face, but it can get fat and chunky with the right amp settings.

Welcome to the forum. I echo whoever recommended the JB. Don't forget, you'll need a Trembucker version....

Thanks for the responses, I need something which is gona add more bass and chunk and take away the thin sound, it sounds really shrill and takes an awful lot of tweaking to get a smoother fat sound.

I've got a JB in a different guitar and not sure if that's exactly what i'm looking for, I think I'm gona go for the Screamin Demon or Blues Sarancino Trem, although I'm not gona count out the JB just yet.
