Humbucker for low tuning

What is the best humbucker for low tuning, for example C? I am looking for the sound of the "Honor Thy Father" by DT.

Re: Humbucker for low tuning

i've had good luck with a JB. My old band used to tune to Drop-C and i loved the sound of it. I also dropped it to drop-B and it sounded even better. it kept the bass nice and tight and let the highs sing when you needed them to. hope this helps.

Re: Humbucker for low tuning

thanks for teh support, koryna strat Q:)
hails Mara. i had my tagima Stratocaster tuned in C, and now in B..... with 0.12 strings and i never ever had a problem with that....... since my bridge humbucker on all those tunings are THE SAME. Bill lawrence l 500 xl.
I (NOW)love duncanS, DIMARZIOS, and strating to love bill lawrence pickups.. but i must check out more pups. i only testedt he l500xl that i OWN.
if you want clips, PM me with your email and i will send to you
you will be very satisfied with teh clips
AHAHAH
HAILS.
i always play with full distortion

Re: Humbucker for low tuning

actually, you might want to even look into the Dimarzio D-sonic. Brad Delson from Linkin Park uses one... and although I'm not at ALL a fan of them, I like his tone. I also hear that it's got good bass response, and high output.

Re: Humbucker for low tuning

Thanks guys, but what about the Inveder? Guitarelectronic.com said: " The most killer Heavy Metal pickup ever! Great for de-tuning. "

Re: Humbucker for low tuning

I can vouch for the custom and Dimebucker, both work great. THe Custom just gets fatter and fatter the lower you go :smoker:

Re: Humbucker for low tuning

I suggest a JB for low tuning and big chords. I like the punch in the bottom end. Some pickups don't like those low frequencies and they start to sound artificial.
The Custom will work also.

Re: Humbucker for low tuning

well john petrucci uses a pickup designed after the steve special, so you could check that out as well. but for now, i'd recommend the Custom.

Re: Humbucker for low tuning

Another vote for the Custom! :)

I have one in my SG which is in Drop C and it sounds great!

Re: Humbucker for low tuning

I compared JB and Custom. To sum it up i would say:
JB: a bit: more mids, warmer less bass, I (!!) found the bass tighter, more modern
Custom: abit: more compressed, more crunch, a bit harsh in my (!!) situation, edgier, more scooped.
But it is just how i ear it.
And I think what Zerb said is really right.
