Humbucker for splitting to Tele sound

I've been thinking there's a lot of opportunity for some good takes on classic sounds with the right HH setup.

For the record, the experimental HSH Strat that I use to test pickups in bridge positions (thx to a hole through the body) hosts a 5 positions Strat Switch + a five positions rotoswitch + a 3 positions mini-switch enabling "front" coil" or "rear coil" or both in series for each HB... Not to mention the ability to connect air coils or LRC filters of all kinds from the back of the guitar. It gives all kinds of series or parallel connections, in phase or not and I need the manual that I've wrote myself to use it. :D

IOW: yes there's a lot of wiring options opening to classic (or less classic) sounds. For instance, I can emulate a Rickenbacker very successfully with the instrument aforementioned... Or the 2d/4th positions of a Strat without even using the mid pickup (!)...
But it required a lot of R&D work and it supposes to have the brain of an engineer while playing. Not optimal for inspired tracks, TBH, albeit still a total joy for the geeky part of my old mind. :-P

i have a jb in a bridge of a tele and it sounds good split. does it sound like a vintage tele pup? sorta. but im a snobby single coil guy and more critical than most. to me it does not sound like a tele bridge pup. in a live situation, its very usable

By comparison:
If a split JB sounds sorta like a vintage Tele pup, then a split Stag Mag will sound exactly like a Tele pup.

If the OP's objective is to get a humbucker that sounds "most like a Tele", why get one that sorta sounds like it? Might as well get the one that does the job best.

If there would be only ONE tele PU sound, i could get rid of at least 3 teles!
Historically there is the crazy bright 7kish A3 AWG43 up to a more beefy 10kish wind.
Then the A5 AWG42 starting at around 7k also...
and on and on...

I bet that came of a bit snobby. I see myself out...

but i searched this forum for the dimebucker lately and i remember this thread:

There's one more thing to be said about the JB: It's available in the "Nighthawk" version, which would give you a bit of the Tele slant. Mind you, it would be a bit more of a challenge to mount, but might be worth the effort.

Hah, I was just thinking about Nitehawks in the car...

Ah, another PU candidate where Duncan might have reused existing coils.
Makes perfect sense from a manufacturing point of view.

Rio Grande makes some crazy PUs like the Vintage Tallboy Twangbucker. No clue if it's any good.

Somewhere on here there was an old discussion/hint with a former employee that the JB, Invader and StagMag are all a 16k set of coils. Possibly one or two other 16k pickups were also close neighbors to the JB, as far as coils only.

I usually like and agree with orpheo, but this post is just WAY off the mark. Certainly it's just his opinion, but ONLY his opinion and not based in any fact. (But then, my opinions are only my opinions as well).

Totally agree with this. I really don't like the stagmag and my post made that perfectly clear haha:laugh2:

Whoa, ok, so I read the older Dimebucker coil splitting thread here and it seems pretty tempting! https://forum.seymourduncan.com/for...ucker-opinions-do-they-sound-good-coil-tapped

Maybe too hot as a humbucker. Probably going off the deep end here but what about a Custom/Dimebucker hybrid in the bridge with a Custom/59 in the neck?

Also, I assume y'all split to the inner coil of the bridge pickup for your Tele tones or is there a case for splitting to the outer bridge coil instead?

Splitting to the inner coil will give you a bigger sound than the outer coil of a bridge pup. The outer coil usually sounds too thin and tinny and weak.

on my RG2 with JB/Jazz and Triple shot rings and five way super switch

I can split the JB and use it in series with the Jazz and get a very TELE like sound

OK, that's good. Great. And that answers the OP's original question..."Straight forward question: which humbucker sounds the most like a Tele bridge pickup when you split it?"...how?

I have a split Dimebucker and while it is awesome I would not describe it as a Tele on steroids as they did, and it is not stratty. It is its own very cool thing. It is very thick and tight with that articulation a single provides, but in no way would you hear it and think it was any type of single coil pickup.

Are you being sarcastic or....
i respect your opinion, but sometimes i cant tell if you are messing with me or not

I think he's pointing out that your solution involves multiple pickups, while the OP was asking what single individual pickup can sound Tele-like when split by itself.
