Humbucker from Hell in the bridge position?

Re: Humbucker from Hell in the bridge position?

So, has anyone here actually tried it in the bridge position, or are you just guessing/theorizing? Because the "boy, i'd imagine that'd be an icepick" doesn't really help me out a whole lot.

kingswebe-- thanks for the EJ bridge suggestion, I'll do a little reading up on that one. It's tough to find a humbucker that doesn't really sound like a humbucker, but more of a single coil. If I'm buying a new pickup and don't have anything that I can use it for in the neck position, maybe something like the EJ would be more appropriate.

I'm pretty sure Eric Johnson uses his sig humbucker in a 335 not a Strat

Re: Humbucker from Hell in the bridge position?

I use the Humbucker from Hell in two of my customized SC-1s, and I find it quite workable. Sounds closer to an MFD pickup than most hum buckers, and I like the ability to use the allen/hex screws to adjust pole-piece balance to my specifications.

Sounds like it would be a nice bridge humbucker in a H/S/S setup with 250k pots. Wish I had one on hand to give it a try.

Re: Humbucker from Hell in the bridge position?

For the lols now, I want to put the Humbucker from Hell in the bridge position on a maple body, maple neck/fretboard, steel floyd rose with a single 1M volume pot into the jack. Anyone want to hear? :D

Sure, I need new speakers anyway - that should blow the tweeters right out.

I have an HFH in the neck position in a basswood guitar that is incredibly bassy at the neck, and it sounds great. Give it a shot; if you like it, keep it. If it blows out your hearing above 5k, don't say we didn't warn you. :nana:

Old thread is old!

But at least it's a good addition.

blesscurse, what's the necks like on those beasts?

Re: Humbucker from Hell in the bridge position?

The more I think about this, the more I think it might be good for that application. Even with 250k a hfh is going to be raging bright in the bridge, but not moreso than a single coil, and it will have more balls in the low end. So if what was required was a stratty sounding bridge with a fuller low end, that would do it. I'd recommend wiring it to a tone pot with a small cap, like a .001uf to .0015uf, so you could roll it back and tame the screech if desired.

Re: Humbucker from Hell in the bridge position?

Since the HFH is very transparent it tends to take on the character of whatever the fretboard is made of. I have only really liked it with maple.
