Humbucker Identification

Any ideas? The other has a circle with an F in it. I'd assume an Asian pup with ceramics, haven't had a chance to try them yet.

“F” and “R” are front and rear. That always annoys me. Why not bridge and neck? Which pickup is “front”?

For some reason I thought one was for when I wanted to play Flashy and the other for Reserved.

I agree, that terminology never made sense to me; if you hold a guitar, is "front" the pickup close to the left side of your body or the right? Almost as bad as remembering which position corresponds to 1 through 5 on a Strat.

Re: Humbucker Identification

Rhythm / Treble are also somewhat ambiguous as it both assumes what tones you want and that your pup voicing doesn't negate the physics of the position. Bridge / Neck make a heck of a lot of sense to me. Or Flashy / Reserved :)

Re: Humbucker Identification

I don't have any pickups in the rear of my guitars, so that's always confused me. They all go on the side with the strings

On a Strat the switch at least moves in a direction corresponding to where the pickups on the guitar.

I guess it made more sense 50 years ago.

I always thought it was because looking at the contacts of the switch you read it from 1 to 3 going from top to bottom and that continued onto Strats, which is why neck is 5 and bridge is 1.
