hi, building up a warmoth soloist, alder body, maple/rosewood neck.
now i got a dd bridge, jazz neck, and a floyd rose original bridge......do i need humbuckers or trembuckers, what the difference in sound????????
All necks are standard spacing. In a guitar with a Floyd or Fender style trem, you should have a TB trembucker spaced pickup. The poles line up under the strings perfectly. Otherwise, it will work, but isn't going to pick up the E strings as efficiently. Just my 2 cents, but for that guitar, I'd go with a C-5 trem/Jazz
I don't own guitars without a Floyd:
For bridge position humbuckers: allways get the Trembucker versions, they compensate the wider spring spacing at FR-bridges with wider pole pieces.
For the neck i mostly use the normal versions except for necks with a nut wider then 43mm, then i put Trembuckers in the neck spot as well. Taste can differ on this one, but for the bridge on FR guitars there is no doubt: trembucker spacing!
You can use either with the OFR and get good results
it is however best to use the wider spaced TB-6 distortion.
back in the day before pups were even available with the F-spacing or trem spacing many a player made due with a regular spaced pup
players such as EVH,VAI,SATCH,RANDY RHOADS and many others had to use a regular spaced pup with their trems
I always check by measuring from the high e string to the low e string across the bridge pickup.....over 2 inches is a trembucker, under 2 inches is a regular humbucker.
Some notice the difference in spacing, others don't. The standard spaced DD will work fine, it just might sound a tad weak on the E strings. If you've already got a standard spaced DD, I wouldn't worry too much about trading in for a trem spaced version.

Is it more important to have wider spacing for a distortion pickup? I have a tb-6 and my buddy has a sh-6 both in Gibsons. Mine lines up better. Is this more important for the distortion line of pups?

he has a regular DD and i told him "it is best to use a TB-6 with a floyd"
with the floyd it is always best to use a trembucker at the bridge spot no matter what model it is(TB-4 JB,TB-6 DD.TB-5 custom, etc)
