Humbucker Parallel mode out of phase?

A humbucker can be wired in parallel and out of phase: it requires to swap the two wires of one coil only [EDIT: and something like a 3PDT switch would be needed for that, BTW].

But it would bring noise by defeating the humbucking mode and should make the sound extremely thin with most humbuckers, for the record.

Ok thanks. Which wires would I swap in this case?

Can you explain why a 3PDT switch would be needed?

Black and white or red and green.
Caveat: it's sounds awful thin and is noisy in both settings.

Parallel will still be hum-cancelling. And since, (I assume), the other humbucker will remain in series, it's signal,(the parallel one), will be slightly weaker, for a somewhat partial OOP sound. If this is a dual-vol / dual-tone guitar, like an LP, then you'll have even more control of the degree of phase cancellation. It could be cool. Worked for Peter Green, and he didn't even do parallel.

You'll need a 4PDT switch, wired like thus: (I show the two halves separated for clarity.)

Or . . . did you mean, the two coils out-of-phase with itself?

That's how I had understood the original post... hence my first answer. But maybe I was wrong?...

That said, partial OOP might be something fun to try with the two coils of a humbucker... :-)

If you want a DPDT to put a humbucker in parallel AND out of phase with itself, the coils will still be out of phase once wired in series... More than 6 poles would be necessary to reverse the phase in the same time than series wiring becomes parallel.
See what Artie posted in answer 6: that's not quite what you want if I've understood your request but the principle illustrated by Artie would still apply in your case.

TBH, I've not tried to do a schematic for that and I lack of free time to do that for the moment. Thx for your understanding and patience.

Ok, botched schematic below.

It's for a humbucker in parallel and out of phase WITH ITSELF.

If the goal is a humbucker in parallel and out of phase WITH ANOTHER PICKUP, see what Artie said and posted (and yes, a 4PDT or two DPDT mini-switches would be required in this case).

I did it slightly different than freefrog, but same result. I doubt this would sound good. Maybe with a humbucker with mismatched coils, like a C5/59, but probably still not great.

I have a JB/JAZZ set in an ibanez RG
with Triple shot rings
And an out of phase position on the blade switch

I will create a demonstration of these later tonight

mine has the out of phase wired in series
it sounds really week and treble otherwise

As promised

straight into the clean channel of the Zombie with no effects at all

Watching it just now
The phone did a lot of compression on the audio
there was one spot at the end that sounded like the room

Most of the audio made the difference very small
In the room the volume drop was very noticeable on the OOP signal
