Its there a way to wire a switch to use a humbucker wired in parallel and then when the switch is flipped its wired in series?

Re: Humbucker parallel to series wiring switch?

As long as it's a 4-wire pup. There are many diagrams available especially using push-pull pots.

As long as it's a 4-conductor humbucker, push-pull pots, DPDT switches, or even your pickup selector can all do the trick!

Triple Shot rings also.

In short, yes, provided the coils have individual hot and cold leads (4-conductor wiring). If they're two-conductor, you'll likely need to replace the pickup with a 4-conductor version.

A google image search for "series parallel switch" should get you a few good results, just look for one that has the color coding for your pickup brand. I did this mod to my LP after putting in a Duncan Jazz/JB set. The JB was great in heavy distortion, but clean or slightly crunched it was way too dark and nasal. In parallel mode, it sounds a lot more PAF-y, much better for lower gain. Turned a real disappointment into one of the best axes I own.

Wait, are you talking about series/parallel between pickups or within 1 pickup at a time?

With one pickup. With the switch one way its parallel and with it the other way its series.

Re: Humbucker parallel to series wiring switch?

Electronically it's not impossible, but you need to work out the exact wiring and find a switch/push-pull/whatever that will do the following for you:

Series: The volume pot needs to see North Hot, Series Link, and Ground+Bare. In the case of Duncans you need the volume pot's input to see the Black wire, while the switch in that position needs to have Red and White shorted together, as well as having Green going to ground. Bare is ground no matter what.
Parallel: Volume pot input needs to see Red+Black, and the switch needs to route White+Green to ground. Bare is always ground.

Not sure exactly what switch would accomplish that off top of my head. Maybe look at a 4 pole double throw?

Re: Humbucker parallel to series wiring switch?

There are diagrams on Duncan's website. You just need a DPDT switch. You can use a push pull. If you use an on-on-on mini toggle switch you also get single coil in the middle.

I use series/parallel switches on many of my guitars and basses. Gives a single coil like sound with no hum.

I have a triple shot. Wiring is very easy. Follow the bouncing ball.

I just saw you in another forum talking about this, I have no idea how old it was, do you remember what forum it was

Oh yes. I have a few guitars where I have done this for the neck pickup. A quick google search will find you any number of diagrams

Looks like this one, 3 years ago. Are you sure you aren't confusing the Duncan forum for the Duncan forum?

I'm pretty sure,if it was the Duncan forum it would have come up black.
The topic was actually about putting two single coils in a humbuckers slot.
