Humbucker question

I'm looking at humbuckers at the moment for my SG and maybe in a near future for my new guitar, having a hard time choosing between a Strat and a Dot 335 :yell:

Anyway, the tone i'm after is sort of a Jazzy clean sound that's versatile of doing almost anything. I play mostly rock with a clean tone, not much OD/dist, but it has to be suitable for that to.

If i remember right the solo in the Pink Floyd song another brick in the wall part 2 was done with a p-90 LP, i love that tone very much so i wonder would a phat cat maybe be the choice? Does the Phat cat sound like a regular P-90?

I have never tried a humbucker in the neck position in an Alder strat so i wonder how is that comparred to a Mahogany body? What pup would suit in that position?

Thanks! :burnout:

The Phat Cat is a HB sized P90, so it shouldn't sound any different at all, a 335 with a set of them would be kicka$$ IMO, as for the strat I've only ever used singles so I can't help.

How about a Jazz in the neck and maybe a '59 in the bridge? I have had a Jazz before and it sounded fantastic but i have never tried a '59, how are those (in the bridge)?

my opinion would be a jazz in the neck and a phat cat in the bridge. you'll get the super clean neck tones with the fatness in the bridge. just my though ....

That's the set I'd recommend. That or just a pair of 59's.

59's capture the tone of the great Gibson SG's of the early 60's. Those played by Eric Clapton, Duane Allman and AC/DC.
