is it possiable to put a humbucker on an acoustic guitar? would it pick it up? what would it sound like? anyone ever done it? just a crazy idea i had

Re: humbucker question

Well, some of the first electrics were basically acoustics with a pickup mounted in them. The SD MagMic also uses what is essentially an electric guitar pickup with a microphone. All of these are single coils, but the principle is the same. Many hollow-body electrics have humbuckers and are nearly acoustic guitars. I don't see why what you're talking about wouldn't work, though I don't really know how you'd mount it without some serious cosmetic (and probably acoustic) changes.

Re: humbucker question

Many acoustic soundhole pickups ARE humbuckers. The difference is, they are voiced to make the signal as "acoustic sounding" as possible - clear & bright, with less midrange than the usual electric humbucker. Acoustic fans still generally don't like this type of pup by itself, often calling it "too electric sounding".

You can try it, but don't be too hopeful that you'll get a great acoustic sound.
