Humbucker--single coil

I've got a humbucker in the bridge position on my strat, but don't use it very often. Is it possible to just wire it as a single coil with out doing a coil split ?

Wow. A forum member called Blueman who's fed up with 'buckers and wants a single. On a Strat.

It's like a weird twilight zone version of the forum in this thread. It's freaking me out...

Re: Humbucker--single coil

Yeah, it's possible. You just don't solder the red and white together. But it'd probably be better to wire it in to a push-pull so that you have both options. If you only like it split then you only have to use it split. Some 'buckers won't sound that great when tapped so being able to switch it back is easier than having to open up your guitar again to wire it back together.

I gotta ask though...is this thread a joke?

Wiring it as a single coil would be a split.
Assuming the humbucker is 4-conductor, you could simply decide which coil you wanted to use and wire it specifically for that one.
Easy peasy.
Or you could wire it parallel to get a more single coil sound but still humbucking.

Do you not use the bridge position in general or just because it is a humbucker?

An alternative would be to put a Phat Cat in the bridge position. Same pickguard, no new routing, fatter single coil sound, no humbucking.
Aesthetically it might not be the best, though, since it has to be covered.
