Humbucker sized P90

Lately I’ve been tone chasing the neck pickup in my LP Std.
I started with a Bluesbucker and I liked it, but didn’t love it.
Next was a DiMarzio Virtual PAF or something like that. Way to dark and way too much low end. I didn’t like it at all.
Moved to a PAF Joe. I liked it better and it has a really awesome “tubular” sound to it which I loved. But again, too thick and undefined in the low end.
So I pulled a Fokin Rocket Queen from another guitar and installed it. So far so good. It’s only been a couple of days so I’ll see how I like it when the honeymoon is over.

Anyway, I had gotten to thinking that maybe a Bucker-sized P90 might be what I need.
I be been shopping around at all of the usual suspects and all of them have a metal cover.
I want cream pickups for this guitar. The closest match would be a gold cover but I really don’t think it will look that good.

Am I missing something or does a humbucker sized P90 NEED to have a metal cover?
What is so different from a regular soap bar p90 where I can get a cream cover all day long

Not to muddy the waters too much, but have you considered a FRED for the neck? It’s typically used as a bridge, but i love it in the neck. I currently have one in a strat, paired with a super distortion bridge.

It can hand volume-wise, is warm enough to still be a good contrast, but isn’t what I’d call “bassy.” It’s worth exploring.

but i also love a neck p90, so i think you’re going down the right path there, too.

I hadn’t thought of the Fred. I think it’s a great bridge pickup.
I’ll search YouTube and see if anyone has a video of it in the neck.
