hey guys, i was wondering if you guys knew a high-powered humbucker on the bridge that has a strat sound on steroids. i want a sound that resembles alexi laiho's lead tone. any suggestions? i don't want any actives though. and thanks to all the guys who replied to my last thread. i wasn't able to say thanks properly.

actually, not necessarily high-powered but something that has a sound similar to the hot rails. any suggestions? seymours of course.

closest bucker to the sound of the hotrails would be an invader imo. But if you want Alexi's sound an EMG HZ4 might be best for you.

Alexi' Laiho tone is effected by many different things, just like anybody's tone. But if you want Strat on roids ??? INVADER, I have a start with invader and I am
into power/classic metal, with nice overdrive like tubscreacer the palm mutes and pick harmonics are a menace and that's without sacrificing the "brown" tone.

actually, laiho once stated that all of his tone comes from his preamp, where he has everything cranked, and that his pup's are actually vintage output, so he had an onboard gain boost installed. you can find it in one of the spring issues of GW

in addition to that, yes, the invader would be the best choice. i once owned a tom delonge strat (guilty as charged:bowdown: ) which i wont lie, was a wonderful guitar, and i was able to play everything from jazz to metal with it, i kinda wish i had kept the pickup. great change when you want to play heavy

And what did I say??? I did not say anything about the fact that it is the invader that makes his tone, I said that if want a strat on roids and you want a strat still to be a strat - invader.

Re: humbucker that sounds like strat on steroids

hey guys, yep. i do know that alexi laiho (well currently) uses emg hz-h4's. invader's? as i recall the invader's supposed to be REALLY dark sounding? and wat do the cleans sound like? basically, i only have a choice for one since my guitar only has space for one. (much like a tom delonge strat)

well, how wud a DD sound on a strat? does it follow that high-powered's lose their ability to play clean? i mean, kirk hammet's clean tone seems to sound nice (not traditionally speaking though) and he uses his emg-81's which are supposedly HOT.

stag mags? hmm... actually quite possibly my choice but i want something MIDDY stratish. nothing active though. hehe.:D

i guess stag mags are okay. after all, although i believe that high-powered's don't necessarily have the ability to play clean i also believe that vintage pickups still have the ability to play METAL.

thanks in advance.

sorry man, i started that off the wrong way. but i totally agree that the invader will bring you close to the tone
