Humbucker to pair YJM Fury Neck?

I have already been using JB/SSL-1/STK-S10n for a while and like this combo a lot so far. Middle and notch position good for cleans/overdrive, then switch to neck for nice fatter contrast when soloing. On the other hand when I play with lots of gain the JB is great for riffs (I think the words are "tight" and "growl", I may be lost in translation), then I go back and forth JB and Fury for soloing.

Now I want to change my sound a bit to get more "high end" from the bridge position in order to have a bit more EQ contrast when switching neck/bridge back and forth, you know what I mean when you listen to guys like Ritchie Blackmore and Malsmteen himself. I already tweaked the pickups hight and imho I already am the sweet spot that this pickup combination can provide but still want a bit more EQ contrast. I don't want a PAF since I don't want to loose the "growl" and "tight" when doing rock/metal riffs.

What humbucker would you suggest? What are you currently using in case you may already have an HSS with Fury Neck?

Screamin' Demon looks like a good match for what you're describing. It's got growl, plenty of presence and has got a single coilish clarity to it. It's also got a enough bottom to not thin out when you boost it with a tube screamer. Probably my favorite Duncan all rounder.

Duncan Distortion? It's what i will pair with a YJM Fury in my next guitar...

Maybe a Full Shred? I think the Demon is more PAFish and the FS is tighter.

When I think of Paf I think of 59, pearly gates or AP-2. The deamon demo from james ryan souns amazing but I don't have such nice amp as he in his demo.

The Fury neck isn't the cleanest of pickups. If you add too much gain it kind of mushes out (at least with my setup). I'd choose a 'little hotter' than PAF to use in the bridge and pay some special attention to the voicing as I think the demon and the full shred would eat the gain that mushes out the fury for breakfast (due to the voicing) and just be too clean at settings that will put the fury on the edge of sludge.

I think the HS-3 neck and Full Shred bridge would be outstanding. Some say that the fury pups are voiced a lot like the DiMarzio YJM and HS-3 pickups but they are different on my rig. I've even thought about asking for a fury neck that is a little less...full sounding from the custom shop. I like the fury bridge a lot though and have it on a couple of strats.

All IMO and based on my playing style and amp choice of course.

Looking into the tone chart it does look like having less treble than a jb. I wonder if that chart is any usefull really.

The tone chart is mostly fair. The JB has more upper mids than treble. The PATB-1 has more low mids and warmer high mids, but it still has enough bright edge where you can scoop the mids and not sound like crap. It pairs very well with the YJM neck. In fact, the pickup I had before the PATB-1 was a JB. The PATB-1 has enough output to balance with the YJM neck which is pretty hot. I used to hate the YJM neck until I switched to 500k pots. I got used to it then and left it there where it will stay. The PATB-1 strangely has a similar vibe or something so I think it matches better than any other Duncan I tried with the YJM neck. Of all the Duncans I keep around, I tried the JB, Custom Custom, Custom 5 UOA5, Full Shred UOA5. None of them I felt matched as well with the YJM neck as the PATB-1. That's my opinion, my preference, so take it for what it's worth.

I used the HS-4 before with a DiMarzio paf and the volume dod not match at all when playing clean, so annoying I will never use it again with a hb, the full shred wouñd be even worse. The fury neck works fine for me with no tone pot, not mudy at all and love it, even better than the jazz model imho and for my taste. Tone wise the dimarzio was amazing but imho useless for an hss configuration, the duncan is better for my hss.

I've not used the HS-4 that way but I did use an HS-3 neck with a PAF pro bridge and didn't have too much of a problem balancing them but once again we probably have different rigs (at that time I was using a 5150 for dirty and a MP-1 for cleans ). Probably a taste thing too. In general I find H-S-S combos difficult to balance and usually end up with H-H or S-S-S.

hmmmm, I actually was combining the HS-4 (the neck specialized version of the HS-3) with the Dimarzio H-8 wich basically is an OEM version of the Paf Pro for Fender. But again, if you where using the HS-3 then I was just not using the very same pickup as you.

Anyway I do like the YJM Fury enough to keep using it but thanks for your comments, maybe I did something wrong back then.

^ this. You might want to try to cut the tone pot off the pups as Yngwie Malmsteen used no load tone pot on his strat hence the tone caps eq curve don't color the pups sound. You might like it. And happy new year 2016 lol. Bring it on Zombie tread

Re: Humbucker to pair YJM Fury Neck?

My vote would be the Full Shred or Perpetual Burn. You will certainly get more high end, and it will be a good balance with the Furys. You also get a little compression, but not as much as the JB. You also avoid that upper mid harshness of the JB that some people don't like.

I know it is almost 3 years ago but, how did that combo worked for you? I now have a Charvel SoCal 2014 with Duncan Distortion Set and I really really like the bridge model, the neck is ok but not my favorite sound.
