Humbucker under P90 dog ear

I really like my Casino Coupe, the whole feel, comfort and weight. I like playing it better more my Gibson ES-339 (fat neck). I noticed there is a similar Gibson version to the Coupe with mini-humbuckers besides the P90s, the ES390.

I was thinking as a project, next year - I've already spent my project money for this year - to buy a used Epiphone Casino Coupe and replace the pickups them with the humbucker under p90 pickups, essentially giving me an Epiphone version of the Gibson ES390 with mini-hums at a more affordable price. The Gibson is way of my reach price-wise, and I don't want to sell the ES339 which I got at a really low price used.

My only concern is will the bumbucker-under--p90-dog-ear be to high for guitars like the casino/wildcat. This concern was noted on another site where another builder makes a similar pickup. If so what modification have to be made to the guitar. Thanks.

Re: Humbucker under P90 dog ear

You would have to do measurements.
you have the guitar, so can figure out precisely the depth of the wood rout under the strings. If you know the precise pickup, then you can find the dimensions.
then if there isn't enough room then you have to make the pickup fit the guitar, or the guitar fit the pickup.

I'm not sure what you mean by "humbucker under p-90". If you mean that you want to replace the P-90s with mini-hums, there should be no problems.

Forget what AlexR just said. The Casino is full hollow body, there is no center block of wood to contend with. The mini is the same size as the P-90. You just need to use a mounting ring with the mini.

That sounds like a great idea to have two Casino Coupes, one with P-90s and the other with mini humbuckers.

OK, it's a mini with a P-90 cover. You shouldn't have a problem installing those.

Good luck.
