I have been experimenting with variations of Artie's coil swap mod with coil cut for some time.
I recently discovered that if you wire the coil cut only to ground out the neck ( or bridge ) pup you can ,because of how the coil swap works still get all the 9 combinations plus 2 additional settings.
Bridge pup plus split neck
Bridge split plus bridge slug with neck coil
If you wire to cut the bridge the additionals will obviously change.
One of those rare occasions where you get more by doing less. The position of the coil swap DTDP is of course more critical for the coil cut options than Artie's original schematic.
I actually used a very cheap mini on off switch to do the coil cut. If you replace this with a mini DPDT on-on-on you can get 4 more settings
Neck pup in parallel
Bridge plus neck in parallel
Bridge coil in parallel with neck slug
Bridge coil in parallel with neck slug plus bridge slug in series with neck coil
I recently used this idea on a project I helped with and also wired up the remaining push pull to enable pick up combinations to be put in series out of phase. This gave another 6 settings plus a kill switch setting which comes as a bonus although it can only really be usefully used with the series OOPs option engaged. That gave 21 options (22 if you count the KS) from 2 push pulls and a mini switch..
The guitar owner was very very happy with the end result. He wanted a complex Jimmy Page type wiring to play with but did not want to cover his 2 pot guitar with lots of mini switches. He has posted some pics of the wiring on another forum.
