humbucker with texas specials

Hey folks,

I was digging through an old box in my attic and found an HSS pickguard with some texas specials in it. I *think* it was an old pickguard to a lonestar strat I had about 5-6 years ago. I think the reason I originally took off this pickguard, was to make way for a SSS pickguard of lace pups....which are now long gone anyway. So I've decided to slap a duncan in the humbucker slot, move my SCN's to a squire strat I found in sam goody last weekend...and install this pickguard onto my strat.

I like the texas specials...I really do...I know some folks dont like them...regardless, what I remember disliking from this pickguard, was the darn pearly gates plus. I found it to be VERY bright, and almost too weak. I want something with a tad more testicular fortitude in the bridge.

I was thinking about ordering a JB trembucker and just calling it a day...but I figure I'll ask for suggestions here...and see if anyone has a better idea!

If you're going with 250K pots all around, I don't see why a JB wouldn't work.

Personally, I'd wire it up in such a way so that when the JB is combined with the middle pickup.

I think the JB would be a good choice if you use 250K pots...splits great too.

I've always found it to be a little to strong for my tastes when combined with regular single coils although it sounds killer and balances nicely with the new Stack Plus pickups.

I had a JB in a Strat with Fralin Blues Specials and found that when I soloed with the JB and then switched to the Fralin Blues Specials to play rytyhm that I barely had to touch the volume control...I wasn't real comfortable with that.

Well...I decided to go with the JB. Ordered it through my buddy at the local shop....should be here next week...

However, after spending some time with the pickguard...looks like the middle Texas Special is borked somehow...I'm probably going to have to replace it! :6:

gonna have to find one on fleabay....
