Humbuckers can't be out of phase can they?

Hi
I have an old Jackson PC3 that I've had since new, 19 years ago. I had already updated two of the pups a long time ago - a SH4-JB at the bridge and a Little 59 in the middle position, but I've now put a Cool Rails that was sitting in a box in the loft in neck position. The odd thing is that while the Little 59 and the JB4 together sound as I expected, the Cool Rails and the Little 59 together almost sound as if they're out of phase!

Any ideas? I know that the combination is a bit odd, but waste not want not!

Cheers

It definitely can happen. The easiest thing to do is simply reverse the black/green wires on the CR and see if it sounds right. Pups have left the factory before with reverse wiring.

Yes. Certain guitarists even make it a part of their sound like Reeves Gabriel.

Thanks for that. Actually I quite like the effect now I've got used to it. I thought they were out of phase because the combined sound is more mellow than either on their own. But I'm gonna leave it that way - the PC3 is a very toppy guitar.
Cheers
