Heya, I recently acquired a used SD Custom Custom Bridge and a Gibson 490r neck.
After installing them on a Maison LP copy I have, I noticed that both of the pups have a really loud and annoying hum when I turn the dirt on. When I'm playing clean and on lower volumes, it's pretty quiet, but when I turn it up, the humming gets pretty loud on the clean channel.
Thing is, it didn't have that problem with the old pickups (stock covered and wax potted oned that came with the guitar) so it's either my soldering job is bad, or the pickups are just naturally like that.
My 2 other guitars which have ceramic pickups (and have an equally bad or even worse solder job lol) have a hum on high gain, but it's barely noticeable.
I'm planning to add covers and wax pot the newly acquired pups; would that help fix the hum? I also noticed that the pickups are more microphonic than the old ones.
Or did I just get bad pickups?
