Hybrid Amp

Okay, here's a dumb question...could a Marshall head be used with a Fender combo amp? Or would that be like mixing Ford and Chevrolet parts? I thought the Marshall head might serve as a pre-amp.

Re: Hybrid Amp

you could use the speaker from the fender combo with the marshall head as long as the speaker had a 1/4" jack or you could run the preamp out of the marshall into the fx loop of the fender and use its power section but that will change the tone considerably

Re: Hybrid Amp

Do you mean taking the preamp out of the Marshall into an effects return of the Fender?

Or do you mean hooking up the Fender's speaker to the Marshall's speaker out?

Or do you mean taking the speaker out of the Marshall to the input of the Fender? That would be a very bad idea.

Re: Hybrid Amp

The Fender has only three options: Foot Switch, Pre-Out, and PWR-In...so the Marshall's preamp out would probably go into the Foot Switch (effects) of the Fender. Or am I just in need of more medication?

Re: Hybrid Amp

maybe more meds but thats for your doctor to decide. you would use the preamp out of the marshall into the pwr-in on the fender

Re: Hybrid Amp

But can we really trust those VA doctors? Hmmmm. I was really just curious about the hybridization thing. Might try it anyway and see how much shock and awe I get.

Re: Hybrid Amp

anytime I think I'm going to make a great marriage with two odd ball pieces of equipment, it always ends up sounding worse than either one by itself.
