I ABSOLUTELY love Traynor YCV 40

I ABSOLUTELY LOVE MY TRAYNOR YCV 40 Sorry for screaming .... I just had to let it out. I had it for about an year. First, I didn't know what to do with it because I was high gain junky ex-metalhead. It's not that there is nothing wrong with it though. After I got that amp, I found that my pickups are too high and too close to the strings and I play too hard. Also, I learned the beauty of low or 'vintage' output pickups. Of course, it's not the best amp out there but I only paid $420 new. After new tubes and speaker, it turned out to be an quite amazing amp. It keeps me stay late and it wakes me up early. I really enjoy playing it and it makes me want to join a band again.

I just got a new amp (Soldano Lucky 13) from ebay. It's more expensive (at least $2000 new) and known as a better amp than traynor. It woudl be interesting how my traynor compares with soldano. BUT, with that price, I would strongly suggest Traynor YCV 40 for anybody for blue/classic rock.

Cheers,

Re: I ABSOLUTELY love Traynor YCV 40

Been looking into this amp. the soundclips I hear are good, but no-one in my parts carries them. With a good boost it sounds like it'd do hard-rock stuff just fine.

mind if I ask you a couple questions about it?

1) Closed or open back cab?

and

2) Is the internal speaker connected via a standard plug/jack? (i.e. could I put a Marshall power brake inbetween?)

Havin a hard time finding many tube combos (that aren't super expensive)that will allow for #2.

It's an open-back cab (though they do have a closed-back extension cab for it)

It is connected by a standard 1/4" plug/jack, you won't have any problems.

This Owl is a proud owner of a YCV-40 himself, the price was hard to beat and the tone is EXACTLY what I was looking for.

Hey JB

1) Closed or open back cab? It's open back cab but you can get a closed back 1x 12 extension cab. Maybe I should do that!

2) Is the internal speaker connected via a standard plug/jack? (i.e. could I put a Marshall power brake inbetween?) Yes. I've experimented with my Waber Mass. There is another speaker out. So I can use the internal speaker only, external cab only or both internal speaker and the external cab.

Cheers!

Re: I ABSOLUTELY love Traynor YCV 40

There is a local shop near my office that carries these and everytime I stop in to play one i think - its not a higain amp - won't do that boogie recto thing at all, but the clean side is - for the price tag - or for a much higher one - to die for; the dirty side is pretty vintage sounding
i haven't thrown a pedal in front of it
but i think i may have to pick one up

Re: I ABSOLUTELY love Traynor YCV 40

my friend owns this amp and it certainly does kick ass for the price. I only played it through the clean channel with and without a distortion pedal and i was very pleased with the sound. Thinking of picking one up myself
