Sold the bad cat (what the hell was I thinking?) Buying a Two Rock Custom Reverb it looks like.

Take that Gearjoneser! (he's still wondering why I didn't buy a Bogner XTC) :smack:

I ought to take a few lessons one day and learn how to play this thang.

Re: I am just a gear ho...

Uh, about a year? I think. Maybe 10 months. It's an incredible amp. At the end of the day, the stuff I play is far more geared towards 6L6 based amps, not EL 34 or 84's. I found myself constantly plugging into my Fender or one of the tweeds I built. Last year about this time, I got bitten by the Vox bug. The Trem Cat was the coolest El84 amp I plugged into. But, I'm a gear ho. What can I say? No defense.

Re: I am just a gear ho...

I hit the end of my Gear Hosiery this past year. Now, I'm just playing and recording, and getting back to the reason I have my toys in the first place. I spent every waking day from the time I was 15 till a year ago being focused on music and just got burned out.....mostly on dealing with bandmembers' problems and no pot of gold at the end of my rainbow. I spent awhile being 'The Gearjoneser' and wheelin n dealin in topnotch amplifiers and focusing on my personal life. Now, it's back to business time.

However, I've GOT to get a picture of my 'Wall of Tonal Delight' because it looks friggin sick, and sounds even sicker! Right now at my studio I've got all these amps lined up.

Canefront & Metalfront Bogner Ecstasys on a Bogner 4-12 and Bogner 2-12
Marshall silver Jubilee 2550 50W fullsize head on Jubilee slant 4-12.
Vox Valvetronix AD60 head on the other Jubilee straight 4-12.
97 Matchless Chieftain 2-12 combo on roadcase platform.
Fender Bassman Ltd 4-10 (sold my Pro Tube Concert for it)

All the amps have fresh tubes. Highgain amps have JJ EL-34's or E-34L's/GT12AX7C's
The clean amps have Svetlana power tubes and GT12AX7M's (Mullard copies)
You'd think I retubed the highgain and clean amps backwards, but those tube compliments were the end result of a lot of tube swapping and listening.

Say what you will, but you'll still be the Gear Hoser Maximus to us.

Re: I am just a gear ho...

It never ends. Lately it's been a Reinhardt 18w head and a Chapin Hawk. I'm pretty fixated on both, and I'll probably have them early next year. My problem is that I'm a packrat. I don't sell stuff to allow me to get other stuff. I always find some reason to hang onto things, even tho I know I wouldn't miss them if they were gone. Gotta do something about that :)

Hey, you gotta make yourself happy!

Re: I am just a gear ho...

I really like the Bassman, especially with an OD pedal and sometimes a Holy Grail Reverb, when I use it cleaner. Awhile back, a regular Bassman reissue went through my hands and I was pretty underwhelmed with it. The lows are tighter on this one, and the mids sound more natural and less honky than the early 90's reissues.
It's really interesting hearing the difference between the Bassman and Chieftain because they're similar designs, only the Chieftain is pure British EL-34 and the Bassman is as American sounding as it gets. I almost always use a strat when I play either of those amps. No matter what, tho, the metalfront Ecstasy will always be what I consider to be the most perfect amp ever made. There's never been an amp that can touch it, and I'd actually bet money that there won't ever be an amp that can match it for EL-34 tone and versatility. It's literally the history of Marshall rolled into one amp head, with a bit of Mesa thrown in. If I actually had a better income, I'd gladly throw a Two Rock in there also. LOL Most of my amps were gotten by a cumulative effect of trading up.

Re: I am just a gear ho...

Didnt you have a Rivera KT55? You liked, you sold it..... do you think you will ever buy another one? Those amps have amazing cleans, and are 6L6 cappable.
Just a curious question for ya!

Haha, you're taking after me Scott, selling the Bad Cat :laugh2:

Great amps, but just didn't fit the tone in my head. One of my favorite bands uses a Bogner Shiva and I love the tone, but I don't think I could ever get it to be a good sounding bedroom amplifier (I know live it will satisfy 110%). It has such a great creamy, compressed, smooth overdrive that still crunches and the cleans are great, I'm slowly getting sucked in to it. I'm pretty sure it's too much amp for me. If it was a 30-40w amp switchable down to 15-20w, it would be a dream come true and probably the last amp purchase I'd make for a VERY long time.

The Fargen I should be getting in should be amazing given the reviews I've gathered. Channel 1 is a JMI-era Vox AC-30 tweaked with more headroom and Channel 2 should be a richer version of a Marshall JTM-45. I'd like this to be the last amp I ever need to buy, the wattage is perfect for me and I know it'll sound great both in the bedroom and give me enough power for on stage.

I can't wait to get a new amp at this point because being forced to play through the Vibrolux Reverb isn't the greatest in the world :yell: . Awesome singing tones (reminded me of the lead channel on the Two Rock Onyx I played a while back), very suitable for jazz or blues, but beyond that, it just won't do anything else.

Ah!!! I'm set-up to buy a Reinhardt in January! Darn good amp - I can't wait!

I'm much the same, although it's not like I've got TWO Bogner Ecstasy's.

Yeah, Bob is a great guy. I think he'd bend over backwards to make anyone happy with his amps. Those things have some great tone

:)

I just got off the phone with him. I am so excited about the amp that I can barely wait. I think this is going to be the ONE for me. It is tough to beat a Master Volume 18W clone - particularly his amp which has some phenomenal vibe to it. The soundclips are great and I am proud to say that my friend, Jimmy Murray, contributed. He is a good picker and speaks very, very highly of Bob and his amps.

Hi, I'm Lee and I'm Scott F.....no, a Slut....no, a Gear Ho.....arghh! :smack:
