I am looking for a set of Seymour Duncan. Need suggestions

I recently acquired a PRS SE Mikael Signature and I find the pickups to be rather dull and boring, no life is given when playing the notes and it is very annoying.

So tonewoods are
Body: Mahogany w/ Maple top
Neck: Maple
Fretboard: ebony

I am looking for a dynamic pickup, that sounds good with effects like delay, phaser, overdrive etc.

What I want out of the neck pickup:
chimey sound, good for lead but not super ear piercing on the high notes, and I do not want the low e and that end to be to fat to a point where it just sound like a bass. something that responds well to turning the volume and tone knob, and sounds good coil split. also I need a dynamic pickup for the neck.

What I want from the bridge: good distortion tones like: ACDC, Shinedown and some metallica (more of the rhythm), I want something that can clean up and also reacts well to volume and tone knob and something that is good with coil splitting, need clarity and note separation and note identification so I can play a big chord under some distortion and still be able to hear it perfectly.

rig: (if it matters)
Marshall JCM800
Laney Iron heart 60
MXR Carbon Copy
MXR Phase 90
MXR Zakk Wylde OD

My experience has repeatedly been that PRS SE guitars luuuuuurve P90s. In the case of your model, it would have to be P-Rails or Phat Cats.

but... I want humbuckers to split and I do not see p90s going along with metallica to well...

I know this might be a boring choice, but I think the standard Jazz in the neck, JB in bridge might work well for you. It's been a well used combo for a very long time, and for a good reason. It works for a lot of players. I think it's a good place to start. But good luck in whatever you decide to do.

I have hard time reconciling the ACDC with the Metallica.
If you used a DiMarzio Super Distortion, its not like youll get booed off the stage...

But you're gonna need scoopable mids: some pickups, like the JB, I find cannot be scooped.

Its possible you could get 59s: its a classic Gibson sound that doesn't accentuate your mids TOO excessively.

Another option is to order whatever it is James Hetfield had in his V: a forum user who made his KEA V replica found out Hetfield ordered a pickup: Duncan won't tell you the specs but can sell you one. Its supposedly Gibson like.

Supposedly, Gary Holt of Exodus used a Custom: its known as a revvedup PAF(vintage Gibson) model.
But my first choice would be the 59: maybe the WholeLottaLove if its not too mid heavy, (or the DiMarzio Super D.)

Re: I am looking for a set of Seymour Duncan. Need suggestions

1. Don't scoop your mids.
2. Anything will work for any style of music.

The rest of your rig is tight enough already, you could easily get away with a warmer, lower output pickup. You'd still have dynamics when you want them, and be able to pull off Metallica rhythms when you need to.

So, maybe a Whole Lotta Humbucker set?

Re: I am looking for a set of Seymour Duncan. Need suggestions

1) I never said high output.
2) Metallica before scooped mids.
3) I was thinking of the Pearly Gates and Custom Custom set.

You're describing the WLH set.

As for Hetfields Duncan, I suspect it to be a Duncan version of the Dirty Fingers or a modded Invader. Saw some pictures of the early days, and they show a nridge pickup with all filister screws.

These days, this is pretty much the answer to every "what should I get" thread.

:lmao: It's true in this case though.
Screamin' Demon or Full Shred bridge would also be contenders in the bridge since OP uses an OD to boost. Jazz or Full Shred neck would also do in the neck.

What's WLH? Honestly....

Wait is it the whole Lotta humbucker?
