I am quite smitten with this guitar, if I may say

Re: I am quite smitten with this guitar, if I may say

Welp. I tentatively backed it when it hit the "we'll add a second color" point. This morning, they announced that second color: Black.

BLACK.

The Honda Accord of colors.

The "I don't feel like having to worry about whether this outfit goes together" of colors.

The "I commute 20 miles between my McMansion and my desk job" of colors.

So, consider my boner officially deflated.

Looks interesting...but the headstock looks like it was sawed off...lol

I'm actually surprised that black was the stock color...I would think adding more colors would add more sales, IMO.

The headstock is probably the weakest part of the design (though it's true to the Senn original).

And yeah, to me, that's a guitar that needs fun colors. But I don't own a successful manufacturing and retailing business and Mike Robinson does. I imagine a business that catered entirely to *my* tastes would fail pretty quickly.

I like it in the black. What I also like is it's kind of a nice mix between old and new. Has that serious retro look, old Fender trem, etc, but 22 frets, humbuckers, and the shape of the guitar lets you easily reach those upper frets, especially for those of us who have big hands and just have a hard time reaching the upper register on something like a Les Paul, or reaching it but having no room to work. I'd definitely rock that for any style of music as long as I could get the tone I need. Flip side is I hate the headstock and the pickup selector, but not enough to stop me from getting the axe. I have to admit that as a rock, metal, blues guy, when the pic first popped up I was like "Ungh!" But I spent a few moments looking at it and it didn't take long for me to see what you saw in it St_Genesius. Yeah, I'd love to see it in that green you guys posted, and the banana yellow too. Maybe even Plum Crazy Purple or Tor Red, if we're gonna get into Mopar colors.

Re: I am quite smitten with this guitar, if I may say

Metallic Purple is in the running for the third color, but given that the people being polled are only CURRENT backers (who, presumably, like black and the CAR) I'd be surprised if it wins. If they want to figure out which color would bring in the most NEW backers, they should probably widen their net.

The only real shot purple has, imo, is that the other three are all green (though not the awesome green I posted earlier): surf green (lovely, but a bit played out), seafoam green (like surf green, only not as pretty) and what they're calling Gretsch Green (basically Gretsch's Georgia Green, which is pretty cool). So MAYBE the green vote gets split three ways and Purple takes it, but my money is on seafoam, as is the one Mike Robinson has personally thrown out for contention.

And yeah, I think I had a similar response. At first, I was like "Meh, it's fine" but the more I studied the shape, the more I liked it.

Oh, but those aren't humbuckers. SCs under an HB cover, but it means you'd have a huge selection of potential replacements.

No buckers? Still very cool. Like you said, lots of potential. I really like this guitar, and hopefully they'll put it out in exciting colors. Me personally, I just like black. I don't find it safe, don't have a McMansion--quite the opposite, lol. I just like this one in black better than that shade of red. I'd love to see it in that green you guys posted, or the yellow.

Vaguely interesting note about the Black option, from a business perspective: in the week leading up to the announcement of The second color, the campaign added 2 new backers each day. In the 48 hours since Black was made official, it has added zero, and actually LOST one.
