I am scared of single coil strats.....

Re: I am scared of single coil strats.....

I personally prefer a humbucker in the bridge... but at the same time, I'm dying for the mid/bridge sound of a SSS. I'm thinking of buying another strat just so I can have that sound. Haha... but I'm not too sure if thats worth it.

Go for it! Once you hear the *clarity* of S/C, you'll be fan. Also, S/C's can be VERY beefy sounding, with the right srings/set up and of course in the 'right hands.' ;)

Hums are prety cool in some situations, but overall ...Single Coils RULE:smokin:

Re: I am scared of single coil strats.....

yeah, but why do the same thing a billion others are doing? :)

Ya, it's a coke, pepsi, beer, water thing to each his own. There is no accounting or rationalizing taste is there?;) I once said that I'd never drink beer. Don't like the stuff. I tried it and liked it. I didn't like cole slaw...until I actually tried it. I didn't like shrimp until I tried it. Shrimp makes me sick and I throw up...I don't eat shrimp, now.

I once played HB's. Didn't want to even touch a strat. Then I bought one and...

Hmmm, I'm sure it's a killer guitar, but as far as looks goes it wouldn't be my choice of suhrs. Have you had a look at the website? -too many killer suhrs to choose. I'd love a shoreline gold alder one with a maple neck and painted stock...

But if you like black strats with painted necks, that'll be the top of the heap.

Nah... I believe every guitarist should own at least 2 guitars: One for the single coils and 1 for the humbuckers. I feel that music is far too diverse to say that a single instrument can cover all grounds.

Re: I am scared of single coil strats.....

My Strat has Antiquity Custom/Texas Hot/Texas Hot, I can honestly say that it doesn't sound thin in anyway. They are warm, articulate and cut through well and can get nice an jangly if you want them too. My Tele has an over wound Broadcaster/Fralin Blues Special....this is a VERY versatile guitar. It can do Hard Rock, blues, jazz, country. It tends to be a bit smoother than the Ants in my strat, but that's why I got the set that I did rather than the Surfers. Singles are awsome! There is no reasonable reason to not have a single coil guitar in your arsenal, you just can't go wrong with a good set.

Re: I am scared of single coil strats.....

I can think of situations where I can't do something I want to do with HBs (chimey, clear cleans). I always like the nice chunky distorted tone I can get from them, but I HATE honky sounding humbucker bridge cleans.

Whereas I've never had problems not getting thick enough with SCs
