I can't believe it, I don't have an amp.

This is a long story. Christmas my 16 yr old wanted an electric guitar. So I got him one and an amp. At the same time I had sold a bunch or really expensive camera equipment I did not need. You probably know the rest Cash & GAS and lack of knowlege was my condition. Oh yeah I had allways wanted to play a guitar and never had the nerve to try.
I kept stumbling across some amazing deals so I snatched up three amps a fender 90 dsp, a bravo 112, and a classic 50.

So I decide I don't need all this stuff I don't even know how to use so I put all of them up for sale and Bahdabing bahdabang there gone. I was going to keep the Classic 50 but this guy calls me yesturday and made me an offer I can't refuse. Call me a whore but I try never to be in love with anything that I can make money on.

I have my little Roland Micro I just bought and I am having a ball with, it's great.

Soooo I need some help finding an amp that will do what I want. I will take my time and with your help I will get some type of tube amp that is right for me. I am not even going to dream about giging I want something that I can play in my appartment.
Is there something that can handle Slow BB King type stuff and Clapton. Right now I am amusing the heck out of myself jsut playng a riff or two and loving it.

Re: I can't believe it, I don't have an amp.

I know this is probably a very stupid suggestion, but if you're after tube tone at apartment levels you could consider a THD Univalve if you've got money to burn. They have built in attenuators and can easily get a whole heap of different types of tones by just swapping in and out different tubes.

But like i said, probably a silly suggestion :D

Thanks But I don't want to spend a ton. I was thinking of a Classic 30, some thing I can tinker with, I love to tinker. Maybe learn about tube swaps and stuff.

Re: I can't believe it, I don't have an amp.

If you love to tinker why don't you get one of the amp kits asnd build your own?

Scott F and Stevo have both done that recently and seem very happy with the results. You can build something that would otherwise be unaffordable to the average GAS-aholic which is kind of a cool thing too. I think Lew's bro sells them if you have any questions.

Build a 5e3. Great home studio distortion at non-ear-bleeding volume levels. If you love to tinker, this is the ultimate hobby.

That sound like a cool Idea, as long as I don't burn down the appartment complex :burnout:

OR................................... :)

You could get a nice Tech21 Trademark 10 & get many tones in one box. My Trademark 60 actually has a setting for BB King on Ch1 & Eric Clapton on Ch2...both of which sound super!

www.tech21nyc.com

I've also got a UniValve. They're a little pricey, but it's a super toy to play with. I'm learning things about tubes on a daily basis without having to bias ANYTHING. And don't let the 15watts scare you away....it's PLENTY LOUD at home levels!

Test drive everything you can & have fun...at our age, that's what it's all about!!!

I said "OUR" age !!!! :)

Hey, starting to play at 54....you are my hero man. I meant that as NO OFFENSE at all. I think it's fantastic! :)

I'm 41 & sometimes feel a whole lot older. I don't look 41 & probably don't act 41, but there are days that I get out of bed & my knees feel like.......well, you know!

Anyway, ROCK ON....and have fun looking for a great amp!

BTW I just spoke to Bruce (Lew's brother) about the 5E3....his package is $365.00 right now. At the end of the month, he's getting new transformers & the cost will be under $350.00

It is never too old or too young to start playing and enjoying music. All I can say is that you will have so much emotion and experience that you can draw on to make the blues sound absolutely special to you. My first love is always the blues and the older you get the more appreciative you get just by playing as few notes as possible. It is wonderful to have all your family with you just make sure that every day is a special day. My only wish is that my father was still alive today and that I could have said a lot more to him before he died.
