I can't believe this! Amp matching question...

Sunday my band will record some songs in the local youth centre (we use backstage room as our rehearsal space), we practised these songs and everyone made shure thier equipment was ok. Everyone exept for the lead guitar player...
He was going to use his Fender Blues Jr. with a Boss pedal (which makes up for a good sound) but now he tells me something is wrong with it! :smack: And so he wants to use the Peavey piece of **** Bandid that they have there.

So there I am having just spend €95 to get my amp set up, biased and checked because I want this demo to have a good sound and now he wants to record using his stock MIK Jackson Soloist Concept through a Peavey Bandit with a Boss DS-2 because he is too lazy or careless to have his amp checked... :yell: He really sounds bad through the peavey...

I don't feel like recording this demo anymore now...

How would recording this 2 different sounds go? It's almost the 2 opposite sides of the guitar amp spectrum! I suspect I have to give up some tone to make it all work?

I might as well use the other peavey for recording,... saves my back and won't make a difference in tone anyway! :yell:

I'm sorry for the rant but I'm pretty pissed right now.

Got any tips on how to handle the situation?

nightburst... tell the guy to stop being stupid and get it fixed. Why would you ever record a demo with the worst gear you have :smack: :smash:

Re: I can't believe this! Amp matching question...

Are you sure he might be winding you up to see what reaction he would get from you? If it's not the case then get him to have it fixed or perhaps see if you can loan/borrow/hire and amp for the day to get him around the problem. Do not compromise your own tone (and amp) just because he's a lazy bugger!!

Re: I can't believe this! Amp matching question...

Why not let him use your amp?

Re: I can't believe this! Amp matching question...

Hey, those Bandits kick ass, you just have to adjust your tone accordingly. What's your sound, and I'll recommend some settings.

Re: I can't believe this! Amp matching question...

In a recording situation with the right tweaking you can make any amp sound good..
within reason of course but in recording alots possible....

Re: I can't believe this! Amp matching question...

Wait a minute. You have a $3500 Bogner head at the disposal of both of you.
When a band makes a CD, they usually have a bunch of good amps, despite who owns or plays them live. Tell him he's doing his tracks with the Ecstasy, or you're gonna punch him square in the damn nose! Is he stupid, or something? You'd think he'd be begging you to use that amp, before plugging into his sh1tbox. Print out this thread and show it to him. LOL

Re: I can't believe this! Amp matching question...

OK, I gather you're recording all at once, live. Right? Postpone it till he gets his gear together. Otherwise his tracks are gonna sound aweful, if you can even hear it above yours.

Re: I can't believe this! Amp matching question...

Hey guys,
At least there are some people on the planet who get it. If only more of those people would live here in Holland... :yell: Everybody thinks I'm taking this thing to far and that I am making a big deal about nothing...Even my own gf!
I can't believe this ****...
We're playing a show tonight so I'll talk some more with the guy. I guess we'll have to record the guitars seperately and play through the Bogner.
And yeah he is an F@&#%^ idiot but a great guitar player, that's why he's in the band.

Sorry for the swearing, I'll let you guys know how it went when I post the soundclips.

Re: I can't believe this! Amp matching question...

That's frustrating. I guess you need to be nice, but persistant.
