... I COULDN’T RESIST

Was out of room after getting an OLP guitar with a giftcard my uncle gave me for Christmas a week and a half ago. I made room for one or two more guitars by getting rid of a broken amp earlier this week. I was bad and sprung on this. This’ll be my first guitar with a single p90 in the bridge. Hope i dig it.

Ps: btw Billie, i appreciated your kind comment on my OP. I deleted that thread because i made a typeo in the subject.

Re: ... I COULDN’T RESIST

I still like it and congratulate you lol

Re: ... I COULDN’T RESIST

Re: ... I COULDN’T RESIST

That would be so much cooler with a smaller pickguard...

Re: ... I COULDN’T RESIST

Re: ... I COULDN’T RESIST

I agree. Pickguard on there is pretty ugly. Makes it look older than it is though, imo, so it’s ok to me.

What's there not to love? A LP Junior DC w/ P90. Total rock machine. But don't let the single pickup fool you. A lot of tones can be had from those.

I dig it, looks very cool. I hope it works for you, enjoy.

Re: ... I COULDN’T RESIST

It's a Tribute model and I'm guessing they saved a little parts money and labor by doing a front route and mounting the pots and jack on the extended pick guard. I love Juniors and it's still a cool guitar. Congrats.

I had a '59 Junior that killed.....

And let's face it.... Van Halen got famous playing one pickup guitars.

Very good point.

Thanks man, yeah i love evh.

I’m thinking if i put in an aftermarket pup, it will be half the install price and half the parts price (because only one pup)

Not getting too far ahead of myself, though, hoping the stock one is good.

Re: ... I COULDN’T RESIST

IMO, there's no real need to change out Gibson P90's. If you need to open it up a bit, the volume pot may be 300K, change it to 500K. Leave the tone pot stock.

Re: ... I COULDN’T RESIST

Re: ... I COULDN’T RESIST

Ok very good to know. I think the only way i’d replace it would be if it was grossly off so it seems unlikely at this point.

Re: ... I COULDN’T RESIST

Re: ... I COULDN’T RESIST

See now my experience with Gibson p90’s are different.
I found the bridge pickup to be a little shrill and harsh. I’m not saying it was “bad” but for me not ideal.
The neck pickup was great.

Re: ... I COULDN’T RESIST

Re: ... I COULDN’T RESIST

I’m going into this expecting it to be agressive. Imo most bridge pups are “shrill” when go head to head compared to necks. I am concerned because i’ve been known to attempt getting jazzy sounds by deploying the neck pup and rolling down the treble. Not expecting to be able to do that with this axe. I’m hoping this brings out new eliments of my playing style. It’s gonna be dif, thats for sure. I hope the limits are what i’m expecting and that the single bridge pup does not impede my playing but brings out a dif side :)

Re: ... I COULDN’T RESIST

Re: ... I COULDN’T RESIST

I would definitely describe it as raw. But it’s a medium output pickup. I forget the DCR on it but iirc somewhere in the 8.? range.

Re: ... I COULDN’T RESIST

Cool, man. I’m thinking i’ll play it through the blues jr. tonight, then
Maybe the mini jube tomorrow. Curious as to where this thing will take me.

Let me know what you think. I’m curious to hear your impressions.
I played my LP Special (p90’s) for quite some time before I decided to swap out the pickups.
Like I said, I really liked the neck pup but for me I was looking for something else in the bridge. I typically like hotter pickups though....
